Hyssop Herb or (Hyssopus officinalis) is a herbaceous plant of the genus Hyssopus native to Southern Europe, the Middle East, and the Caspian Sea region. Hyssop is a brightly colored shrub that grows from 12 to 24 inches in height. It has a woody stem with straight branches displaying dark green leaves and pink, blue or white fragrant flowers during the summer.

Commonly used as a medicinal plant for ailments such as asthma, colds, quinsy, coughs and lung conditions, scrofula, expelling worms, high blood pressure, gravel in the bladder and stomach problems.

Medicinal Properties include: Anthelmintic, aromatic, asperient, carminative, expectorant, febrifuge, pectoral, antiseptic, stimulant and sudorific.Medicinal properties include: Antispasmodic, sedative, tonic.

For general use as a tea, steep one heaping teaspoon in a cup of boiling water for 20 minutes. Take one to three cups per day using a large swallow at a time. Children less depending on age. Do not use for an extended period of time.(Exceeding 2 weeks) without a pause.

Other common names include: Herbe de Joseph, herbe sacrée, herbe sainte, hiope, hisopo, hissopo, hyssopus officinalis, hysope, hysope officinale, jufa, rabo de gato and ysop.
